First Night takes steps to fund itself in future

WORCESTER — It’s a new countdown for First Night Worcester, which last year had to launch an appeal to fund its Dec. 31 event.

The nonprofit organization, which has put on annual New Year’s Eve celebrations in Worcester since 1982, plans to form a small working group in the next couple of weeks to consider how it can sustain itself financially, said First Night Worcester Executive Director Howard McGinn.

First Night Worcester’s new fiscal year begins April 1, and McGinn said he hopes a plan will be in place by then.
