For Immediate Release: November 4, 2013
Howard McGinn, Executive Director (508) 799-4909
WORCESTER _ First Night Worcester, the second oldest in North America, has been hosting New Year celebrations since 1982. Despite many years of tumultuous times for First Night organizations across the United States, Worcester has persevered because of the tremendous support of corporations and individuals throughout Central Massachusetts.
The team that spearheads First Night Worcester feels a deep responsibility to citizens throughout the Commonwealth to continue its tradition of ringing in the New Year with exciting events and activities.
“The financial reality of bringing a First Night to fruition each year is staggering. Without the financial support of private donors as well as local businesses, these amazing events might become a thing of the past,” said Worcester First Night Executive Director Howard McGinn.
McGinn and his team are ramping up efforts for community outreach and are hopeful that all of the businesses and individuals who contributed in the past will continue supporting this well-received and important event,” said McGinn. “We are hopeful that past contributors, as well as new supporters will help us bring another year’s celebration to fruition for the benefit of thousands of Massachusetts’ families. We expect to expand our attendee footprint this year, with people traveling from Boston and Providence to enjoy our celebration.”
McGinn believes that with the anticipated escalation in attendee numbers, sponsors will benefit from increased visibility.
“This is a great opportunity for our sponsors,” McGinn said. “With more people expected to join our festivities, sponsorship reach will expand and be more impressive than in past years, which means dollar for dollar, our contributors will receive a higher value from their sponsorship fees.”
To bolster First Night Worcester 2014, McGinn and his team of volunteers have been building partnerships with a variety of well-known performers who are confirmed to perform on Dec. 31, 2013.
A few of the performers earmarked to perform at First Night Worcester 2014 include: singer/songwriter Ayla Brown, mind reader/comedian Eric Dittelman, and acrobat Li Liu.
Brown, daughter of former-Senator Scott Brown, is recognized for more than just her father’s political success. Brown made it to the Top 16 on American Idol’s fifth season, and has since released three albums: Forward, Ayla Brown Live!, and Circles-EP.
Recently, Brown served as the spokesperson for the “Songs of Love Foundation,” which helps children going through emotional or physical challenges. She has also been a consistent performer at the Down Syndrome Congress Event in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Her commitment of giving back to the community, and her amazing vocal talents energized the First Night Worcester Committee and made her a perfect choice as a performer for this year’s event.
Dittelman, a Central Massachusetts local, made a name for himself in 2012 when he advanced as a semi-finalist on NBC’s hit show America’s Got Talent for his mind reading comedy showcase. In 2013, Dittelman once again captured peoples’ attention when he made a special appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He has also committed to performing at Worcester’s 2013-2014 First Night celebration.
Lui has an impressive resume detailing her career as professional acrobat. Beginning her training at only the age of six, Lui was chosen to attend The Chinese National Circus School and trained there until the age of 16. Throughout her career, Lui has won prestigious awards including a gold medal at Festival Mondial du Cirque du Demain for her artistic cycling act, and “The Golden Lion” prize at The Wu Qiao International Circus Festival for her duo hand balancing act with her sister. Currently she is a consistent performer for the NBA and WNBA halftime shows and is a spotlight performer on Princess Cruise Lines. Liu will join Brown and Dittelman as another addition to First Night Worcester’s performance scheduled for December 31.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Ayla Brown, Eric Dittelman, and Li Lui are scheduled to perform at First Night Worcester 2014,” McGinn said. “This New Year’s Eve event promises to be the most spectacular night since its inception!”
