History of First Night Worcester
Did you know…
First Night Worcester is a volunteer driven non-profit organization which is funded 100% by button sales and the generosity of the greater Worcester community: businesses, foundations and individuals who provide financial and in-kind support.
First Night Worcester is not only a one night event! In addition to the December 31st celebration, we provide workshops throughout the year in art, music and drama for the Worcester Public Schools and throughout the community. These programs involve hundreds of young people and their teachers in the creation of art installations, in the design and development of the venue, and as performers at the event.
First Night Worcester is inclusive of people from every generation, ethnicity, disability, and economic background. First Night Worcester is the second oldest celebration of its kind in the world and is part of an affiliation of cities with a common mission to build and strengthen communities through the universal language and enjoyment of the arts.
First Night takes its name from the first night of the New Year, occurring at the stroke of midnight on December 31st, which is also why the numerical date at the end of First Night Worcester is not for the year that is passing, but for the approaching New Year.
We look forward to your participation in what promises to be another sensational celebration of our community, for our community, and by our community.
